Financial Services Group
The Financial Services Group of Livery Companies was founded in 2006 to co-ordinate support from the financial and business services sector for the Lord Mayor, the Court of Aldermen and the City of London Corporation.
The Worshipful Company of Insurers is one of the 14 Livery Companies on the Financial Services Group, plus the Guild of Investment Managers which holds Observer status. Other FSG companies include the Accountants, Actuaries, Solicitors, International Bankers and Marketors.
The Financial Services Group of Livery Companies is the largest such group in the Livery and meets formally four times a year to exchange views and organise a series of events. Currently the Worshipful Company of Insurers representative on FSG is Mark Johnson.
The Worshipful Company of Insurers also has a Working Group to support its FSG representative and this currently comprises Paul Brady, Melissa Collett and Jeremy Cross, Erik Johnson, Dave Matcham and Noemi Wall.
The FSG organises an annual meeting of Livery Company Masters, a regular Livery Survey & Playback and also arranges events such as The Sustainable Finance panel. In addition, The Sheriffs’ Challenge, which is an annual speaking event for Year 12 students from London schools, is held under the auspices of the FSG, and is organised by the Worshipful Company of Educators.
Briefing the Lord Mayor
Every year the Financial Services Group of Livery Companies prepares a comprehensive briefing document for the incoming Lord Mayor.
This highlights the major issues for the whole market, as well as providing detail on those specific to each of the specific sectors represented within the FSG.
The WCI played its part in contributing to the briefing for this year's Lord Mayor on behalf of the insurance market with controbutions from Senior Warden Karl Jarvis.
He has passed the WCI-FSG Representative baton onto Court Assistant Mark Johnson who is already crafting the 2024 version of the briefing for Alderman Alastair King, expected to be the next Lord Mayor. Mark plans to hold a Master Series event in the next few months on the FSG to communicate what its all about and what its plans are for 2024-2025.
