The Master, David Sales, told the members and guests gathered in the splendour of the Egyptian Hall at Mansion House for the Company’s annual banquet that the Insurers are playing an ever more prominent role in City life.
With Sir Charles Bowman, Lord Mayor Locum Tenens, sitting alongside him, he shared his passion for the City and the insurance market.
“The City of London has been my second home for my entire working life and the impact of the pandemic and the alien way of life we were suddenly subjected to in the City made me realise just how much I miss how things were before the pandemic struck and how passionate I feel about the future success of the City of London in general and the insurance industry in particular.
“It is very pleasing that as a Livery we are rightly playing an ever more high-profile role in our position in the City Civic and the Financial Services Group. Insurance represents a significant proportion of the City workforce.
“We should have influence.”
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentations to two outstanding cadets from the units supported by the WCI.
Cadet Corporal Maria Chelariu of 211 Detachment (Edgware) Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, received the Cadet Achievement Award. The citation from her Company Commander said: “She is dependable and determined, inspires her fellow cadets and has demonstrated great leadership at the detachment and on company events.”
The Award for Exceptional Contribution to RAF Air Cadets in 2022 went to Cadet Flight Sergeant Jack McLean of 1034 (Surbiton & Esher) Squadron Air Training Corps, praised as “an example of a model cadet. His patience, leadership, discipline, professionalism and interpersonal skills are beyond reproach.”
