WCI aims to "Inspire Inclusion"

The Worshipful Company of Insurers has been at the forefront of promoting greater diversity and inclusion in the insurance industry.
It established its own women’s network ten years ago and the Insurance Women’s Inclusivity Network recently celebrated its 10th anniversary at a packed reception at the Old Bailey.
When the WCI formed iWIN back 2014 there were only 15 women members and just two women on the Court (the governeing body). Today it has 123 women members and six associate members, with 45% – almost half – the Court being women.
This year’s Master is Claire Burrell, the second female Master in three years and the current Junior Warden (the third most senior officer) is Sara Fardon.
For International Women’s Day Master Claire Burrell joined other female members of the Worshipful Company in a special photoshoot that took inspiration from the recent Vogue magazine cover.
“We are proud to spotlight our growing female membership with the fantastic support from iWIN whicharranges a series of brilliant events throughout the year”, said Claire Burrell.
The current iWIN chair Claire McDonald said that iWIN was determined to keep building the female presence in the WCI:
“This years’ theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Inspire inclusion’ and what we hope to achieve by this photo is to showcase that the Worshipful Company of Insurers is a modern livery welcoming all women.
“We are about 23% of the WCI’s membership now so let’s make it our objective to lift that to 30%. Our next event to help us on our way to that objective will be on 9 May when we will focus on Diversifying the Livery”, said Claire McDonald.
• Thank you to the City of London club for hosting the photoshoot, and to photographer Iman Hussain.
