London Air Ambulance showcased at Winter Lunch

The Company’s Winter Lunch saw nearly 200 members and guests gather in the splendid setting of Drapers’ Hall, one of the City’s finest livery halls.

It was an opportunity for members to hear more about the Master’s charity, the London Air Ambulance, and why it needs the support of businesses and residents in London, as Master David Sales explained.

“I have a long-held admiration for the London Air Ambulance and for what they mean to Londoners but the more I get to know about their operation the more my admiration soars.

“I have had the privilege to be present at other events with the London Air Ambulance team where I have had heard first-hand about the amazing work that they do in supporting London's most critically injured in need of life-saving care.

“I am aware that while the service has continued 24/7 throughout the pandemic, much of their fundraising has stopped. it is a charity with 89% of its income coming from voluntary donations.

“There is a need to replace their helicopter fleet in 2025 and these plans cannot afford to be put on hold.”

Lucy Brooks, Head of Partnerships for London Air Ambulance, told the audience more about the vital work the team based at the Royal London Hospital do every day. By taking life-saving equipment and medical expertise to the scene of incidents within minutes of being scrambled, hundreds of lives are saved and outcomes dramatically improved for those severely injured every month.

She explained that the two helicopters that deliver this vital service to Londoners need to be replaced at a cost of £15m and that this was the focus of their current fundraising programme.
