Company Plans for Autumn Events
Written by David Worsfold on 28th August 2020
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to severely restrict the Company’s event programme but we are imaginatively planning to offer members as many opportunities as possible to meet, either virtually or face-to-face.
Common Hall, the Company’s annual meeting at which reports from officers and the Court are received and the new officers installed, will be virtual this year. It will take place on Thursday 1 October at 6pm.
There will be a small, invited audience for the live proceedings in the National Liberal Club. This will be limited to 30 people in accordance with the current public health guidelines. The event will be live streamed with opportunities for members watching to question officers on their reports. Full details will be circulated next month.
The Installation Dinner has been postponed until 24 March next when we hope the Covid crisis will have eased sufficiently for us to hold a large dinner for members and guests. It will take place at Saddlers’ Hall.
One of the first opportunities for members to socialise will be on 21 October at the Roast Beef Lunch at the newly refurbished Butchers' Hall. The organisers have decided to run a socially distanced lunch which will now be a sit-down meal rather than a carvery.
As we have limited places at this lunch members will be restricted to one guest
The cost per head is £65 for a three course lunch, pre-lunch drink, half a bottle of wine and coffee. The booking form is now open.
Looking further ahead, the Informal Winter Lunch will take place at the Little Ship Club on 28 January.
We are still hoping to hold a formal Winter Lunch and the traditional Mansion House Banquet in 2021. As Mansion House is not due to re-open until the beginning of April members will appreciate that firming up these events is not possible at the moment.
• The WCI also supports the Financial Services Group of Livery Companies and their next event takes place on 1 Sepetmber when the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists will host a webinar on blockchain. Further details and a registration form.
