City Sheriff praises “values, history and tradition” of WCI

The Installation Dinner for Master David Sales at Saddlers’ Hall heard guest speaker Nicholas Lyons, Aldermanic Sheriff and WCI member, praise the company for its “values, history and tradition”.

He said the WCI had helped the insurance industry demonstrate its commitment to tackling the great issues of the day, such as climate change, through its events, something that was more important than ever as “the world and our industry have never faced such uncertainties”.

Alderman Lyons (pictured top) also praised the Company’s support for charities and the NHS through the Coivid-19 pandemic: “Giving support and demonstrating compassion is a tangible mark of your generosity and purpose”.

ImageMaster David Sales (left), starting his second term as Master, told members and guests that it was important to keep explaining how insurance is central to the success of the City of London and the UK.

“We all know that the London insurance market is a vital part of the financial services industry both in the UK and globally.

“The London Market remains the largest global insurance and reinsurance hub and, in 2018, represented 23% of the City GDP and directly employed 47,000 people. The business of insurance matters to the City of London. It matters to the UK. And it matters to the World.”

During the evening, Past Master Graham Dickinson presented the Company’s Chaplain, Rev Canon David Parrott, with a gift from the Company to mark his retirement as Vicar of St Lawrence Jewry and our Chaplain after 12 years. He said Rev Parrott left the Company with “wonderful memories from a great friend” and praised his service to the church, the City Civic and the Livery.
